Financial Aid Office - Scholarships

Thurgood Marshall School of Law encourages students to explore and apply for all applicable scholarships. The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid make every effort to inform students of scholarships administered by Thurgood Marshall School of Law and external scholarships as they become available.

We suggest that you apply for any and all external scholarships if you meet the eligibility requirements; receiving an external scholarship could reduce your alternative loan borrowing. Remember, the less you borrow, the less you'll have to repay.

Internal Scholarships

The Thurgood Marshall School of Law – Texas Southern University awards merit based scholarships to students who demonstrate academic excellence. The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid reviews all student academic credentials in determining the eligibility of prospective and current students. In regards to rising 2L students, the guideline for the requisite demonstration of academic excellence is finishing the Spring Semester of the first year with a cumulative grade point average that places the candidate in the top ten percent of the class. The top ten percent of 3L students will also be awarded merit based scholarships. The law school currently follows a merit scholarship class allocation policy, that allocates the significant majority of merit scholarship funding to in-coming and rising 2L students. Scholarship amounts are contingent upon the current budget allocated towards scholarships.

Please note that the law school’s scholarship program described above is subject to fund availability and review each academic year. Any modifications in the program resulting from the review will be posted, and a written notice sent to any affected student.
