TMSL PROFESSOR APPOINTED TO NCAA CABINET
May 30, 2008
Professor Anna Taylor James has been appointed to serve as a member of the NCAA Division I Academic Cabinet beginning September 1, 2008, and concluding July 1, 2001. As a cabinet member, Professor James will be responsible for the review and consideration of Division I legislation that relate to principles of sound academic requirements. Additional duties of the cabinet include: handling the compilation and disclosure of information concerning the graduation rates of student-athletes, as well as making policy or legislative recommendations concerning relationships between the Association and its members and the nation’s two-year colleges as represented by established regional and national organizations.
The Academic Cabinet will also work with the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse operations team on certification of initial eligibility for athletics; make recommendations on the recruiting process in intercollegiate athletics; develop regulations that empower student-athletes to select an institution based on athletics and academic choices rather than financial gain; and review potential avenues of financial relief for institutions through the allocation of athletics financial aid.
Currently, Professor James serves as the Faculty Athletics Representative on the National Collegiate Athletic Association Committee.
