Thurgood Marshall School of Law Student Appointed as Student
Regent
Cynthia A. Spooner, a second-year law student at Thurgood Marshall School
of Law was appointed as a student regent by Governor Rick Perry on February
3, 2006. Spooner, a member of the Christian Legal Society, student ambassadors,
and the American Bar Association Student Bar, received a bachelor’s
degree in finance from Howard University in Washington, D.C. She also
serves on several committees of the National Association of Realtors.
With terms to expire February 1, 2007, Governor Perry appointed 10 individuals
as student regents for their respective university systems. In 2005, Governor
Perry signed legislation providing that each public university board of
regents shall include one student member. Student regents will have the
same powers and duties as the members of the board of regents, with the
exception of voting and being counted to determine a quorum.
