TMSL ALUMNUS WINS APPEAL
Currently serving as the attorney for Brandy Briggs, TMSL Alumnus
Charles Portz (’82) has become a recognizable name
in the legal profession. Portz, a partner in Houston’s Portz &
Portz Law Firm, assisted Briggs with her appeal. Briggs, sentenced in
2000 to 17 years in prison, was convicted of the death of her two month
old son.
After serving five years in prison, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals
overturned Briggs conviction in December 2005 on the grounds of ineffective
legal representation. Her attorney during the initial hearing was Richard
Anderson.
