Charlotte Washington, Director of Communications/Building Services has been employed at Thurgood Marshall School of Law since 2000. During her tenure at the School of Law, Ms. Washington has worked in several capacities including the Director of Development and as the Grants Coordinator. Possessing over 20 years of experience in corporate America, government, and academia, Ms. Washington was the School of Law’s manager for its renovation project in 2002. In this capacity, she provided leadership, and oversight in the areas of budget management, space planning and utilization, and project construction. Ms. Washington’s work experience is multifaceted, ranging from purchasing advertising space to planning special events, speech writing, fundraising, and grant writing.
A consummate professional, Ms. Washington is dedicated and committed to excellence in every area of her life. She is a member of Women in Communication, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, and the Association for Fundraising Professionals. She has served on numerous university committees, including: Strategic Planning, Campus beautification, Campus Master Plan, Homecoming, Commencement, Development Council, and Communications Council. She also chaired the School of Law Dean’s Investiture Program and the University’s Staff Grievance Board. Currently, Ms. Washington serves as the Chair of the University’s Staff Council that represents more than 750 employees.
Ms. Washington served as an adjunct professor in the University’s School of Communications where she taught Health Communication and Business and Professional Communication. Selected as a member of Who’s Who in Communication, Ms. Washington received the Dean’s Stellar Award in Communications. She was also a recipient of the Graduate Student Award for Outstanding Research by a graduate student in the School of Communications. Ms. Washington has received many awards and honors from law student organizations for her service to the School of Law.
An exemplary leader and community activist, Ms. Washington currently serves as the President of the Volunteer Circle for the University Museum. She is also a member of many other professional and service-oriented organizations where she holds leadership positions. In her capacity as Director of Communications and Building Services, Ms. Washington is responsible for handling media relations, preparing the annual report, and serving as the editor of the School of Law’s quarterly publication. As the Director of Building Services, Ms. Washington directs the general upkeep and maintenance of the School of Law building and grounds. Additionally, Ms. Washington assigns space for events, plans major events for the law school, handles parking for law school guests, and supervises graduate assistants for building services.
Reba Hall – Administrative Assistant
Having worked at Thurgood Marshall School of Law for more than 15 years, Ms. Hall assists in the daily operation of the law school. She is responsible for preparing work orders for maintenance issues and assisting with space requests and event planning.
The Office of Building Services is responsible for providing the law school faculty, staff, and students with a professional, safe, and comfortable physical environment. The department seeks to maintain both the interior and exterior infrastructure of the building and grounds including the parking lot, and is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the building and grounds. The department also oversees all construction, renovation and ground beautification projects.
