| Mission Statement The mission of the Center
for Government Law is to provide integrated academic and practical skills
training in government administration and regulation; preparing students
for the practice of law in the public sector.
Overview
The Thurgood Marshall School of Law (TMSL) through its academic, clinical,
and trial advocacy programs has a tradition of cultivating dynamic public
service lawyers. Among our alumni are myriad judges, federal prosecutors,
district attorneys, as well as, city and county attorneys. With the addition
of the Center for Government Law (CGL), TMSL has expanded its capacity
to prepare lawyers for all phases of federal, state, and local government
practice. The Center for Government Law will provide a comprehensive continuum
of course work, externships, fellowship opportunities, and seminars in
government law and administration to prepare students for successful careers
in the public sector.
The Center for Government Law works with numerous governmental organizations
on the local, state and federal levels to serve as a bridge between government
and academia. The Center provides practical experiences for students and
assist government leaders in research advancement in the legal profession
and public policy arenas.
Students are afforded an opportunity to receive a Certification in Government
Law, through invaluable practical experience via externships in various
governmental entities, increased employment possibilities, and extensive
career contacts.
