The Thurgood Marshall School of Law Library subscribes to a growing selection of online legal research tools covering many areas of law. These databases are available through the TMSL network and from home via Remote Access. Specific restrictions are outlined following each database link.
To access any database click the database name. For Remote Access, click on the Remote Access link at the end of the database link information. **To access the databases remotely, you must be a current student, faculty or staff member and possess a TMSL library patron card. ** Some Electronic Resources are not available by Remote Access. Consult the Electronic Database Guide or contact the Circulation Desk for assistance.

19th Century Master File Series: 19th Century Masterfile contains detailed cumulative index content from over 70 core sources published before 1930 from periodicals, newspapers, books, patents, image archives, government documents and more. AILALink: A resource from the American Immigration Lawyers Association containing statutes, regulations, select cases, agency correspondence and manuals, government liaison minutes, forms, and AILA publications. || Remote Access
The Almanac of the Federal Judiciary: Provides balanced, responsible judicial profiles of every federal judge including all of the key bankruptcy and magistrate judges. || Remote Access
The American Presidency Project: The American Presidency Project is a free repository that preserves and provides access to documents and papers of several Presidents.
BePress: Abstracts and full text of high-quality peer-reviewed journals. The law library subscribes to four (4) of Bepress law journals. || Remote Access
Bloomberg Law: Online access to multiple databases including primary materials and a number of corporate/business related resources. Access limited to current students and faculty. You will have to register at https://profile.bna.com/bloomberglaw-activate/ in order to use the site. SKIP the Activation Code blank at the top of the page, fill in the rest of the blanks (USING YOUR TSU EMAIL), agree to the terms, and prove you are not a robot. Bloomberg will send an email to your TSU email account. Follow the directions from there. Note: Bloomberg Law is case sensitive; put the part of your email address after the @ sign in lower case.

Comprehensive Guide to Bar Admission Requirements: Put out by the National Conference of Bar Examiners and the ABA, this tells you what you need to do to get admitted to various U.S. jurisdictions. Free resource.
Current Index to Legal Periodicals (CILP): A weekly table of contents for new law review and journal issues and a subject index to the articles in these journals. (Emailed to faculty members.)
Congress.gov: The Library of Congress's web page with information on Congress and the doings of Congress. Page contains links to the Library's main page and the Copyright Office. This page is the successor to Thomas.gov.
Constitutions of the World: Contains current full text constitutions of 203 countries and provides introductory and comparative notes that examine recent amendments and highlights. || Remote Access
CQ Press Electronic Library: Created and hosted by CQ Press, the CQ Press Electronic Library (CQEL) is the definitive reference for research in American government, politics, history, public policy, and current affairs. A wealth of CQ Press resources and years of journalistic and editorial expertise are combined in this indispensable reference collection.

Court Listener: Court Listener is a free case research database. It offers the text of many state and federal cases and occasionally some interesting analytic components. It also offers AUDIO FILES of oral arguments in several cases which may be of interest to students, evidence faculty, and others.
Death Penalty Worldwide: A free web resource containing information about the death penalty in various countries, death penalty crimes, decisions by various human rights organizations, and other death penalty related information (hosted by Cornell University Law School).
Digital Public Library of America: A free web resource containing scans of items from the collections of numerous American libraries including U.S. government publications provided by the Government Printing Office and Texas government documents (EX: Texas Register) provided by the University of North Texas.

Homeland Security Digital Library (HSDL): The Homeland Security Digital Library (HSDL) is the nation's premier collection of documents related to homeland security policy, strategy, and organizational management. The HSDL is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's National Preparedness Directorate, FEMA and the Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security. Immigration Court Practice Manual: The Practice Manual is a comprehensive guide that sets forth uniform procedures, recommendations, and requirements for practice before the Immigration Courts. The requirements set forth in this manual are binding on the parties who appear before the Immigration Courts, unless the Immigration Judge directs otherwise in a particular case. The Practice Manual does not limit the discretion of Immigration Judges to act in accordance with law and regulation.
Investment Arbitration Reporter (IAReporter): An electronic news service tracking cross-border arbitrations between foreign investors and their host governments. Judicial Appointments Database: This is database contains data about thousands of state and federal judges and judicial appointors such as governors and presidents. Information includes biographical data about each person, the roles they have held before, during and after their time in the judicial branch, their political affiliations, their education, and any retention events that kept them in a judicial position (such as a reappointment).

Marcive: Marcive catalogs government documents in order to provide an electronic search of this catalog. Documents can be searched for by author, title, SuDoc number, or other fields. || Remote Access
Municode: Municode, more formally known as Municipal Code Corporation, is the largest private sector publisher of municipal ordinances, responsible for the codification and publication of municipal codes for more than 2,700 cities and counties in all 50 states. This free version provides browsing or limited searching of a municipality's code (but not multiple different codes simultaneously). Once you follow the link, use the "Library" tab at the upper-right of the screen to browse the codes. Select the state you need and then the municipality. Also note the Help tab in the upper right corner.
National Center for Interstate Compacts Database: CSG's National Center for Interstate Compacts Database allows you to search more than 1,500 statutes for state-by-state interstate compact membership, serving as a useful search tool for researching interstate compacts. (Free database)
NatLaw World: Collection of Latin American and Mexican legislation and regulatory materials. Legislation is organized by country and subject matter. This used to be called InterAm Database. || Remote Access
O'Connor's Online: Online access to a collection of practice-related Texas materials used by practicing attorneys all across the state. Access limited to current students and faculty. You will have to register the first time you visit the site. NOTE: You will need your official TSU email address to register and to verify your account. NOTE: Logins are case-sensitive; the part after the @ sign must be in lower case. NOTE: Once you have created your account, you should be able to access this from home without using our remote access protocols.
Oxford Journals: Oxford Journals publishes well over 230 academic and research journals covering a broad range of subject areas, two-thirds of which are published in collaboration with learned societies and other international organizations. Ravel Law: Ravel is a legal research platform that has access to basic case material courtesy of a digitization effort in conjunction with the Harvard Law Library and other public record sources. This material is available and searchable for free. Ravel also provides data analytics related to judges, courts, and other aspects of the law. Those are NOT free. To gain the free access you simply need to go to the page linked here and then make an account.
RECAP: RECAP is an add-on for Firefox and Chrome browsers designed to help alleviate the costs associated with using PACER to access federal case documents. When you are in PACER, it connects to an archive where people have donated .pdf copies of documents they have pulled from PACER. If a copy of your document is in the free archive it tells you so you do not have to pay PACER for the case, and if the case is not in the archive, it asks you to donate a copy.

Texas Law Help: TexasLawHelp.org is a website dedicated to providing free, reliable legal information to low-income Texans. It is part of a broader effort within the national legal aid community to use technology, specifically the Internet, to enhance and expand the delivery of legal aid. THIS SITE HAS FORMS.
Texas State Law Library: The Texas State Law Library is a free resource for anyone residing in Texas. You will need to sign up for an account with them and let them geolocate you in order to determine your eligibility for their resources, but once you do, they provide access to HeinOnline, FastCase, AILALink, and other legal reference databases. They also provide access to various legal e-books. However, due to the firewalls at TSU, you cannot access this resource from on campus. NOTE: You must renew your membership in this library every SIX months and prove your Texas residence at that time via geolocation.
TexasLawyer.com: The online version of the Texas Lawyer, which has been a key source of legal news and information to the legal community in Texas for more than twenty years. This site offers good browsing and search functionality, but articles are also included in Lexis. Accessing older articles may require using Lexis. || Remote Access

Thomson Reuters Checkpoint: An online service dedicated to tax law. It includes the Federal Tax Coordinator, Internal Revenue Code, Regulations with commentary and standard tax treatises. (No remote access at this time.) (Used to be RIA Checkpoint)
