Professional reference assistance is available during the academic year. Reference Services is available to assist with questions about the collection, to help find specific legal materials, or to set up a research strategy. Assistance is also available for areas requiring extra research skills such as working with microfiche, government documents, legislative histories, administrative law, and international law.

The reference librarians cannot give legal advice or interpretations of the law; please consult an attorney who is engaged in the practice of law for such assistance. Whenever the Reference Desk is not open, patrons who require reference assistance should inquire at the Circulation Desk.

Reserve Collection
The Circulation Desk maintains a collection of items placed on reserve by faculty, including Faculty Reserve Items and an Exam File. The Reserve Collection is located behind the Circulation Department. Books and current law journals are placed on reserve because many people utilize them. Additional items are placed on reserve by the Law Library's staff to facilitate equal access to heavily used materials and items of special interest. These items include such materials as Dorsaneo's Texas Litigation Guide, Kendrick's Texas Transaction Guide, unbound copies of used legal periodicals, Texas Rules of Form, Texas Subsequent History Table, and The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation. Most reserve materials may be checked out for use in the Law Library for a period of two hours by presenting a valid TSU identification card or current driver's license to the circulation staff.

Exam File
A file of old exams is available in the law library. Faculty members may place exams in the file by giving a copy to Elsie Kelley along with a letter granting permission to make these available for student use.

Faculty Reserve Items
The Law Library maintains a small temporary Reserve Collection of items that professors have asked to be held at the Circulation Desk for student use. Students may borrow and use items within the library for a limited time. Faculty Reserve items are removed at the end of every semester and returned to the faculty member. To place an item on Faculty Reserve, contact the Faculty Research Librarian or bring the item to the Circulation Desk.
